Steel Panther
Formed in the late 1990s on the Los Angeles club scene, Steel Panther developed a glam metal and hard rock project heavily inspired by 1980s aesthetics, initially performing as Metal Shop and then Metal Skool before adopting their current name in 2008. Led by singer Michael Starr and guitarist Satchel, the band relies on parodic songwriting and deliberately explicit lyrics about sex and the rock lifestyle, while maintaining a polished sound of melodic guitars, prominent harmonies and technical solos. Steel Panther gained local recognition through regular residencies at venues such as the Key Club and the Viper Room, then broadened their audience with the album “Feel the Steel” in 2009, followed by “Balls Out” (2011) and “All You Can Eat” (2014), which featured several guests from the American metal scene. Their discography continued with “Lower the Bar” (2017), “Heavy Metal Rules” (2019) and “On the Prowl” (2023), accompanied by international tours and festival appearances. After a long period of lineup stability, bassist Lexxi Foxx left in 2021 and was replaced by Spyder, while Steel Panther maintains a highly theatrical stage identity that plays on the visual and musical codes of hair metal with a deliberately comedic edge.
