W.A.S.P.
Formed in the early 1980s in Los Angeles, W.A.S.P. emerged from the heavy metal and glam metal wave on the Sunset Strip around singer, bassist and guitarist Blackie Lawless, who has remained the band's primary creative force through numerous lineup changes. W.A.S.P.'s early years were marked by a blend of shock rock, fast riffs and melodic choruses, driven by highly theatrical live shows that shaped the band's aesthetic as much as its music. The albums W.A.S.P. (1984), The Last Command (1985) and Inside the Electric Circus (1986) established this identity, before the band moved toward a darker, more structured direction with The Headless Children (1989). With the concept album The Crimson Idol (1992), W.A.S.P. developed a narrative about the mechanics of fame and alienation, a theme the band revisited on ReIdolized (2018). The discography continued with Still Not Black Enough (1995), K.F.D. (1997), Helldorado (1999), Unholy Terror (2001), Dying for the World (2002), the two-part The Neon God (2004), Dominator (2007), Babylon (2009) and Golgotha (2015), confirming W.A.S.P.'s evolution toward a more melodic heavy metal marked by introspective, religious and political themes while remaining tied to its hard rock roots.
