Danko Jones
Born in the mid-1990s out of Toronto’s independent scene, the Danko Jones project quickly established itself as a hard rock power trio blending punk energy, garage influences, and touches of blues rock. Led by singer and guitarist Danko Jones, long partnered with bassist John Calabrese, the band shapes a straight-ahead, riff-driven sound with brisk tempos and concise songs often built around themes of relationships, desire, and nightlife. After several EPs and releases in the late 1990s, Danko Jones issued its debut studio album, “Born a Lion,” in 2002, followed by “We Sweat Blood” in 2003 and “Sleep Is the Enemy” in 2006, which secured the band a place on European and North American rock circuits. The records “Never Too Loud” (2008), “Below the Belt” (2010), and “Rock and Roll Is Black and Blue” (2012) extended this raw, propulsive aesthetic, while “Fire Music” (2015), “Wild Cat” (2017), and “A Rock Supreme” (2019) confirmed the trio’s steady output. With “Power Trio” in 2021 and then “Electric Sounds” in 2023, Danko Jones continues to steer its discography toward no-frills, stage-ready hard rock shaped by the intensive touring that has defined much of the band’s career.
