David Lee Roth
Born in Bloomington, Indiana (USA) in 1954, David Lee Roth emerged in the late 1970s as the singer of Van Halen, the California-based band whose first studio era he helped define through 1985, blending hard rock, heavy metal, and glam influences. After the split, Roth launched a solo career with the EP "Crazy from the Heat" in 1985, revisiting pop and soul standards before sharpening a more cutting rock sound on "Eat ’Em and Smile" (1986) and "Skyscraper" (1988), joined notably by Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan, and Gregg Bissonette. Across "A Little Ain’t Enough" (1991), "Your Filthy Little Mouth" (1994), "DLR Band" (1998), and "Diamond Dave" (2003), he alternates hefty riffs, bluesy nods, covers, and more radio-friendly tracks, with a marked taste for melodic arrangements and straightforward hooks. Alongside his work as a rock singer, Roth has periodically turned to the media, autobiographical writing, and several reunion tours with Van Halen, keeping his name at the intersection of classic hard rock and broader American popular culture.
