C. Tangana

Behind C. Tangana, the stage name of Antón Álvarez Alfaro, is a career that began in Madrid and was initially rooted in the Spanish independent rap scene. Active in the early 2010s under the alias Crema and later as part of the collective Agorazein, C. Tangana gradually made his mark on Madrid’s scene with a dry, direct writing style supported by urban productions that crossed hip-hop, trap and R&B. By definitively adopting the name C. Tangana he expanded his format and his place in Spanish-language pop, while maintaining a strong focus on storytelling and playing with rap conventions. His albums Ídolo (2017) and Avida Dollars (2018) extended this period with introspective tracks, more melodic choruses and a minimal aesthetic. With El Madrileño (2021) he shifted his work toward a more hybrid repertoire, blending Spanish song, flamenco, rumba, bolero and Latin American influences in collaborations with artists such as Niño de Elche, Andrés Calamaro and Omar Apollo. C. Tangana thus moves between the urban scene, popular song and festival formats, following a trajectory defined more by changes of register than by strict continuity.
