Shakira

Born in Barranquilla, Colombia in 1977, Shakira developed early on a songwriting style nourished by Latin pop, rock, dance and Middle Eastern influences linked to her Lebanese and Spanish family heritage. After two initial albums released in the early 1990s, she gained broader prominence in the Spanish-speaking world with Pies Descalzos (1995) and Dónde Están los Ladrones? (1998), where her highly recognizable voice, lyrics often co-written by her and a blend of guitars, Latin rhythms and Eastern motifs became clearly established. She then recorded MTV Unplugged (2000) before expanding her audience with the bilingual Laundry Service (2001), an album that accompanied her move onto the international pop stage. The rest of her career alternates between Spanish and English releases — from Fijación Oral, Vol. 1 and Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 (2005) to She Wolf (2009), Sale el Sol (2010), Shakira (2014), El Dorado (2017) and Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (2024). Over the years Shakira has collaborated with artists such as Alejandro Sanz, Wyclef Jean, Rihanna, Maluma, Bizarrap and Karol G, while maintaining an aesthetic that blends pop, reggaeton, rock, ballad and dance music, supported by worldwide tours and regular appearances on major international stages.
