Bad Gyal
Born in Vilassar de Mar, near Barcelona, in 1997, Bad Gyal — real name Alba Farelo — has built a musical project situated between dancehall, reggaeton, trap and electronic pop, marked by prominent use of autotune and Caribbean rhythms adapted to the European club context. She first drew attention in 2016 with “Pai”, a free reworking of Rihanna’s “Work” produced in association with the Pxxr Gvng collective, which circulated online and on social networks. That same year she released “Slow Wine Mixtape”, her initial calling card mixing Catalan, Spanish and English, followed by “Worldwide Angel” in 2018, which confirmed an aesthetic oriented toward global bass and digital dancehall. Gradually establishing herself on Spain’s urban stages, Bad Gyal expanded from club dates to festivals across Europe and Latin America, while collaborating with producers such as El Guincho, Jam City and Dubbel Dutch and with artists from Latin and Afro-Caribbean music traditions. The EP “Warm Up” (2021) extended this hybrid approach—between melodic reggaeton and more sound-system-oriented tracks—while the album “La Joia” (2024) gathered that work into a more structured format focused on bilingual songwriting and productions conceived for the stage.
