Reef
Formed in 1993 in the southwest of England, around musicians linked to Glastonbury and Devon, Reef sits within a British rock scene nourished by alternative rock, hard rock, blues rock, funk rock and the Britpop momentum of the decade. The band originally brought together Gary Stringer, Jack Bessant, Kenwyn House and Dominic Greensmith, and in the mid-1990s drew attention for a direct, solid and highly rhythmic sound, carried by abrupt refrains and a live energy forged on tour alongside Paul Weller, the Rolling Stones or Soundgarden. After Replenish in 1995, Reef broadened its palette with Glow in 1997, the album that contains 'Place Your Hands', then continued with Rides in 1999 and Getaway in 2000, maintaining this blend of thick riffs, rock groove and soul accents. Separated in 2003, Reef reformed in 2010 and resumed regular live activity, at British festivals such as Glastonbury, Isle of Wight or Reading. The band returned to the studio with Revelation in 2018 then Shoot Me Your Ace in 2022. Through lineup changes, Reef remains centered on Gary Stringer and Jack Bessant, today with Luke Bullen on drums and Amy Newton on guitar.
