Cast
Formed in Liverpool in 1992 around John Power, a former member of The La’s, and bassist Peter Wilkinson, Cast are part of the Britpop wave while retaining a firm grounding in English indie and alternative rock. The lineup stabilised in 1993 with Liam “Skin” Tyson on guitar and Keith O’Neill on drums. Cast developed a direct, melodic guitar sound driven by clear choruses, a buoyant rock energy and songwriting influenced by 1960s British pop. The band emerged in the mid-1990s after opening for Oasis and Elvis Costello, releasing All Change in 1995, followed by Mother Nature Calls in 1997 and Magic Hour in 1999, where the writing grew broader and rougher. With Beetroot in 2001 Cast moved further from its original formula, incorporating soul, funk and psychedelic textures, and split up later that year. Cast reformed in 2010 and resumed activity with Troubled Times in 2011 and Kicking Up the Dust in 2017. After Peter Wilkinson’s departure Jay Lewis joined the band’s circle, and Cast continued with Love Is the Call in 2024, an album recorded around the core of John Power, Liam Tyson and Keith O’Neill.
