Del Amitri
Formed in Glasgow in 1980 around Justin Currie, the band's principal songwriter, Del Amitri belongs to a Scottish rock tradition that blends pop rock, alternative rock, jangle pop and touches of folk rock. After their first album, Del Amitri, released in 1985, the group refined its songwriting with the arrival of Iain Harvie and, later in the late 1980s, Andy Alston, finding a balance between chiming guitars, straightforward melodies and often world-weary lyrics. That approach took shape on Waking Hours (1989), followed by Change Everything (1992), Twisted (1995) and Some Other Sucker’s Parade (1997), with songs such as "Nothing Ever Happens", "Kiss This Thing Goodbye", "Always the Last to Know" and "Roll to Me", which established Del Amitri on the British and North American scenes. The band's trajectory continued with Can You Do Me Good? in 2002, before a lengthy period of withdrawal. Del Amitri returned to the road from 2013 with a lineup centered on Currie, Harvie, Andy Alston, Ash Soan and Kris Dollimore, and later went back into the studio for Fatal Mistakes in 2021. Within the British rock landscape, Del Amitri has maintained an identity founded on the balance between pop songwriting, taut guitars and a melancholic tone.
