Ash

Formed in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland, in 1992 around Tim Wheeler, Mark Hamilton and Rick McMurray, Ash developed a taut, melodic rock that sits between pop‑punk, alternative rock, power pop and indie rock, with short, fast songs strongly rooted in pop songwriting. First noticed with the mini‑album Trailer in 1994, Ash established themselves in the mid‑1990s with 1977 (1996), then expanded by adding guitarist and singer Charlotte Hatherley from 1997 to 2006, a period that included Nu‑Clear Sounds (1998), Free All Angels (2001) and Meltdown (2004). Returning to their three‑piece format, Ash continued with Twilight of the Innocents in 2007, before experimenting with a different release method with the A–Z series in 2009, built around singles released over time. Present on the British and Irish rock scenes for more than three decades, Ash have also toured internationally and shared bills with bands such as Weezer. In the 2010s and 2020s Ash continued this trajectory with Kablammo! (2015), Islands (2018) and Race the Night (2023), maintaining a direct, melodic and energetic sound.
