Dodgy

Formed in Hounslow, west London, in 1990, Dodgy originally brought together Nigel Clark, Mathew Priest and Andy Miller — three musicians who had passed through Worcester before settling in the capital. Associated with the Britpop wave but not confined to it, Dodgy developed a melodic rock sound informed by power pop, alternative rock and bright guitars, with straightforward songs, carefully crafted choruses and a tone often more upbeat than much of the British scene in the mid-1990s. After The Dodgy Album in 1993, the band refined its approach on Homegrown (1994) and Free Peace Sweet (1996), producing hits such as Staying Out for the Summer, Good Enough and If You’re Thinking of Me. In the late 1990s Nigel Clark left Dodgy and the band continued in an expanded line-up with David Bassey, Chris Hallam and Nick Abnett, recording Real Estate in 2001. The original trio reformed in 2007, beginning a new chapter marked by Stand Upright in a Cool Place (2012) and What Are We Fighting For (2016). Since resuming activity, Dodgy have regularly performed live with Stuart Thoy on bass, in a line-up that has become a quartet.
