Sepultura
Founded in 1984 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Sepultura initially developed a style that blended thrash and death metal, characterized by a dark, fast aesthetic driven by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera. After their debut album "Morbid Visions" (1986), the band refined its songwriting on "Schizophrenia" (1987) and broke through internationally with "Beneath the Remains" (1989) and "Arise" (1991), whose precise rhythms and cutting guitars defined Sepultura’s signature. In the mid-1990s, "Chaos A.D." (1993) and especially "Roots" (1996) introduced heavier tempos, groove and hardcore influences, and elements borrowed from Brazilian music and percussion, opening a more experimental phase. Following Max Cavalera’s departure in 1996 and Igor’s in 2006, Sepultura continued with vocalist Derrick Green and guitarist Andreas Kisser, around whom the modern lineup is built. Albums such as "Against" (1998), "Nation" (2001), "Dante XXI" (2006), "Machine Messiah" (2017) and "Quadra" (2020) continued the band’s exploration between contemporary thrash, more progressive textures and percussive passages, with lyrics often addressing social, political and identity issues. Active on major tours and metal festivals, Sepultura remains associated with the Brazilian scene while holding an established place on the international metal landscape.
