Fear Factory
Formed in Los Angeles in 1989, Fear Factory initially belonged to the death metal and grindcore scenes before shaping a more hybrid language at the intersection of industrial metal, groove metal and electronic textures. The band coalesced around Burton C. Bell and Dino Cazares, developing an identity quickly recognizable through the alternation between clean singing and abrasive vocals, staccato guitars and a rhythmic approach conceived like a cold mechanism, often linked to dystopian and science-fiction imagery. After Soul of a New Machine (1992), Fear Factory sharpened its formula with Demanufacture (1995), a pivotal album in their evolution, followed by Obsolete (1998) and Digimortal (2001), in dialogue with the 1990s metal and industrial scenes. Fear Factory's trajectory has been marked by several lineup changes, a split in the early 2000s and a revival from the end of that decade, with Mechanize (2010), The Industrialist (2012), Genexus (2015) and Aggression Continuum (2021). Over the years the band also worked with Rhys Fulber, whose input reinforced the electronic and atmospheric dimension of a sound that remained tense, precise and urban.
