Psycroptic

Formed in Hobart, Tasmania, in 1999, Psycroptic is rooted in technical death metal with an approach based on complex song structures, tight tempo changes, and highly precise instrumental playing. From its inception the band has revolved around brothers Dave Haley (drums) and Joe Haley (guitar), later joined by vocalist Jason Peppiatt, a permanent member since the mid-2000s, and by bassist Todd Stern. After the first album, The Isle of Disenchantment (2001), Psycroptic quickly refined its identity on The Scepter of the Ancients (2003), followed by Symbols of Failure (2006) and Ob(Servant) (2008), a period during which the group expanded its presence beyond Australia. Psycroptic has toured Australia, Europe, and North America, sharing the bill with bands such as Nile, Deicide, Decapitated, Origin, and Misery Index, in circuits tied to extreme metal and technical scenes. The discography continued with The Inherited Repression (2012), the self-titled Psycroptic (2015), As the Kingdom Drowns (2018), and Divine Council (2022). From one record to the next, Psycroptic maintains a dense and aggressive death metal foundation, while evolving the songwriting toward sometimes more direct formats without abandoning the rhythmic complexity that underpins its sound.
