Post Animal

Based in Chicago since 2014, Post Animal brings together Dalton Allison, Matt Williams, Jake Hirshland, Joe Keery, Wesley Toledo, and Javier Reyes in a lineup where writing and singing share duties from song to song. The band develops a psychedelic rock with progressive edges, blending dense guitars, keyboards, vocal harmonies, and structures that move from oblique pop to heavier or foggier passages. After the EPs Post Animal Perform the Most Curious Water Activities (2014) and The Garden Series (2016), Post Animal first built its presence on Chicago's local scene before touring with several bands from the American indie rock circuit. Their debut album, When I Think of You in a Castle, released in 2018, established an identity marked by melodic psych rock and dynamic shifts. From there, Post Animal evolved its approach with Forward Motion Godyssey (2020), more open to a flexible progressive pop and to arrangements less overtly garage, followed by the EP Worried About You in the same year and Love Gibberish in 2022, continuing this move toward more colorful and winding forms. Joe Keery, less present on tour from the late 2010s due to acting and solo musician activities, remains tied to the band's history and reappears on Iron in 2025, an album that reunites the six-piece lineup and extends the band's collective trajectory between psychedelia, indie rock and experimental pop.
