Pond
Formed in Perth in 2008 around Nick Allbrook, Jay Watson, Joe Ryan and Jamie Terry, Pond is part of the Australian psychedelic scene, with several members also linked to Tame Impala. From the start the band developed a sound that blends psychedelic rock, experimental pop, glam, oblique funk and more progressive passages, with songs often mobile in form and mood. After Psychedelic Mango (2008), Corridors of Blissterday (2009) and Frond (2010), Pond broadened its songwriting on Beard, Wives, Denim (2012) and Hobo Rocket (2013), where guitars remain central but give more room to keyboards and electronic textures. Man It Feels Like Space Again (2015) marked a more melodic step, extended by The Weather (2017), produced by Kevin Parker. With Tasmania (2019), 9 (2021) and Stung! (2024), Pond continues this evolution toward a more synth-driven psychedelic pop without abandoning tonal ruptures, off-centre choruses and the band energy that characterises both their recordings and live shows.
