Phace

Under the name Phace, Florian Harres has developed a central trajectory in German drum and bass since the early 2000s, first as a duo formed in 2000 in Saarbrücken with Nicolas Ruoff, then as a solo project from 2007 after Ruoff’s departure, based in Hamburg. His music is situated in a tense, dense and futuristic drum-and-bass register, built on nervous rhythms, cutting basslines and very precise textural work, with extensions into broader forms of bass music in his parallel projects. Phace emerged in the mid-2000s with releases on Subtitles, Renegade Hardware, Virus and Vision, while repeatedly collaborating with Noisia and Misanthrop. In 2008 Phace co-founded the label Neosignal Recordings with Misanthrop, and in 2017 NËU MUSIC — two entities that support both his own productions and those of a more experimental electronic scene. His discography under his own name includes Psycho (2007), From Deep Space (2010) with Misanthrop, Shape The Random (2015), Between (2018) and Everyday (2024). Alongside club and specialist label releases, Phace has performed on international festival stages and, with Neosignal, developed a more open approach to half-time and audiovisual live formats.
