Misanthrop

Under the name Misanthrop, Michael Bräuninger from Germany develops work centered on drum and bass, with a strong neurofunk bent, dark mechanical textures, and a writing style that blends rhythmic impact, tense sound design, and futuristic atmospheres. Active since the early 2000s, Misanthrop has appeared on labels such as Subtitles Music, Renegade Hardware and Shadow Law before founding Neosignal Recordings in 2008 with Phace, a regular studio partner. Their collaboration takes multiple forms — from drum and bass to a more electronic joint project called Neosignal, presented notably at Fabric in London and at MS Dockville. As a solo artist Misanthrop released No Quantise EP (2006), Greed Of Gain EP (2013), I Need More EP and Collapse EP (2015), followed by the albums Misanthrop (2016), Analog (2019) and Universe (2022). His catalogue also includes tracks and remixes with or for Phace, Noisia, Mefjus, Alix Perez and Black Sun Empire. Alongside his music work, Misanthrop also works as a film editor, an activity that sheds light on the visual precision and the sharply constructed nature of his sonic universe.
