Prolix

Rooted in the UK drum & bass scene, Prolix has developed since the mid-2000s an approach focused on the darker, more technical variants of the genre, between techstep and neurofunk. Behind the name Prolix is producer and DJ Chris McCarthy, who first gained attention with a series of maxis released on specialist labels such as Renegade Hardware and later Ganja-Tek, before releasing more widely on central drum & bass imprints. His record "Project Trendkill", made in collaboration with American producer Gridlok and released in 2011, was a key milestone, bringing British and North American aesthetics together around a dense, fast and highly structured sound. Over the 2010s Prolix founded the Trendkill Records label, a platform for his own productions and collaborations with artists from the international drum & bass sphere, while continuing to work occasionally with other labels. Prolix’s tracks rest on incisive rhythms, prominent basslines and a dancefloor-oriented construction, with marked attention to texture details and the dynamics of breaks.
