Olavi Uusivirta
Born in Helsinki in 1983, Olavi Uusivirta established himself on the Finnish scene in the early 2000s with Finnish-language pop-rock that blends direct melodies, guitars, a light new-wave tension and, at times, folk inflections. A singer, songwriter and actor trained at the Helsinki Theatre Academy, he released his first album Nuoruustango in 2003, followed by Me ei kuolla koskaan (2005), Minä olen hullu (2008) and Preeria (2010). His repertoire later moved toward more open formats, notably on Elvis istuu oikealla (2012), Ikuiset lapset (2014) and Olavi (2016), before Skorpioni (2019) and Pieni kuolema (2022). Alongside his solo career, Olavi Uusivirta played as a second drummer in the band Soma and took part in Absoluuttinen Nollapiste’s Pisara ja lammas project. He has also developed a career in Finnish film and television, but music remains the central thread of a trajectory rooted in Nordic rock and pop, with expressive vocals and lyrics that mix energy, melancholy and observations of everyday life.
