Pendulum

Formed in Perth, Australia, in 2002, Pendulum initially brought together Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen and Paul Harding, before expanding into studio production, DJ sets and a live format after relocating to the United Kingdom. The project began in drum and bass, with a fast, dense sound that blended bass music, breakbeats, synthetic textures and rock energy. This approach took shape on Hold Your Colour (2005) and later shifted toward more electronic rock–inflected structures on In Silico (2008) and Immersion (2010), where Pendulum combined guitars, sung choruses and rhythmic programming without abandoning its drum-and-bass foundation. Over the years Pendulum moved between electronic stages and more rock- and festival-oriented contexts, maintaining an identity designed for both the club and the live setting. After a hiatus in the early 2010s—during which Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen notably developed Knife Party—Pendulum resumed stage activity from 2016 and continued its discography with the EPs Elemental (2021) and Anima (2023).
