Modestep
Born in London around brothers Josh and Tony Friend, Modestep began to take shape in the late 2000s before becoming a full band in the early 2010s, combining dubstep, drum and bass, electronic rock and touches of alternative rock. The project first drew attention through online radio and a string of singles such as "Feel Good", "Sunlight" and "To the Stars", prior to the release of the album "Evolution Theory" in 2013. Modestep subsequently expanded its lineup and sonic palette—mixing sung choruses, guitars and bass-music-oriented production—and released "London Road" in 2015 in a reconfigured lineup following the departures of Matthew Curtis and Nick Tsang and the arrival of Pat Lundy and Kyle Deek. From 2017 onward Modestep gradually refocused around Josh Friend, issued releases on Never Say Die, Monstercat, Disciple and UKF, and developed a sound more directly linked to modern dubstep and drum and bass, as heard on the EPs "Echoes" and "Dawn" (2019) and "Diamonds" (2022). Since Pat Lundy's departure, Modestep has continued solely under Josh Friend's name, with "Give Up The Ghost" released in 2025.
