Matrix

Based in London, Jamie Quinn has since the mid-1990s developed a career rooted in British electronic music under the name Matrix. Initially active in the duo Turbosound, he quickly established himself in drum and bass with productions released on labels connected to the London scene, before founding Metro Recordings. His first album, Sleepwalk, appeared in 2000 on Virus Recordings and laid the foundations for a precise writing style, at the crossroads of technical drum and bass, futuristic atmospheres, and a more melodic approach than strictly abrasive. Matrix also works in other club registers: in the early 2000s, he formed Goldtrix, a house-oriented project, while his collaborations with Optical, Ed Rush, Dom or Danny J kept him in touch with the most active drum and bass scenes. From 2005, Matrix opens a new chapter with Brendan Collins under the name Matrix & Futurebound, a duo that blends drum and bass, dancefloor and more pop choruses on the 2007 album Universal Truth, then on Worldwide 001 in 2011. Solo or in duo, Matrix thus alternates between club formats, more frontal productions and tracks built around a clear tension between rhythmic energy, taut basslines and a sense of catchiness.
