MNEK

Born in Catford, in south London, MNEK, whose real name is Uzoechi Emenike, develops early a writing nurtured by 1990s R&B, British pop, UK garage and dance. Initially active as songwriter and producer from adolescence, he makes himself noticed in the early 2010s by taking part in Rudimental tracks, then by co-writing or producing for artists and projects located between pop and club music, from Duke Dumont to Gorgon City, including MØ, Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Beyoncé or Little Mix. Parallel to this behind-the-scenes work, MNEK builds a personal path where soul singing, pop refrains and rhythms from house and garage intersect. His first singles, then the Small Talk EP in 2015, establish a direct aesthetic, centered on the voice and clean productions, while the duo 'Never Forget You' with Zara Larsson in the same year broadens his visibility as a performer. MNEK then releases the album Language in 2018, followed by several singles and collaborations that extend this approach, at once pop, R&B and electronic. On stage as in the studio, MNEK thus occupies a singular place between songwriting, production and performance, with a sound that links the heritage of British black music to a contemporary pop designed for the club as much as for radio.
