Men I Trust
Formed in Montreal in the mid-2010s, Men I Trust brings together keyboardist Dragos Chiriac, bassist-guitarist Jessy Caron, and singer-guitarist Emmanuelle Proulx around an indie pop sound tinged with electronics. Initially conceived as a shape-shifting project, Men I Trust gradually settled into a fixed trio format, defined by Emmanuelle Proulx’s gentle, measured voice at the crossroads of dream pop, synth-pop, and a slow groove borrowed from funk and R&B. The early albums, Men I Trust (2014) and Headroom (2015), laid the groundwork for a melodic, pared-back sound, blending electronic pads, clean guitars, and prominent bass lines. With Oncle Jazz, released in 2019, the band compiled a set of tracks issued over the previous years and affirmed a writing style focused on mid-tempo moods and repetitive structures. In 2021, Untourable Album continued this aesthetic, steering it toward more introspective atmospheres while remaining faithful to the mix of understated electronic textures and minimalist arrangements that characterizes Men I Trust. Committed to self-production, the trio has built its audience primarily through digital releases and touring, moving between clubs, small independent venues, and festivals across North America and Europe, with constant attention to the sonic and visual coherence of Men I Trust on stage.
