Sports

Formed in Oklahoma in the mid‑2010s, the band Sports operates in an indie pop vein that blends soul, R&B, soft rock and synth‑pop. Centered around singer‑songwriter Cale Chronister and multi‑instrumentalist Christian Theriot, Sports first appeared on the local scene before gaining attention online with the EPs “Naked All the Time” and “People Can’t Stop Chillin”, both released in 2015 and marked by a lo‑fi aesthetic, warm keyboards and a taste for slow, detailed melodies. After relocating to Los Angeles, Sports refined their songwriting toward a more produced sound, drawing on 1970s and 1980s references and working with textures of understated funk, synthetic ballads and minimalist R&B grooves. More recent releases, including the projects “Get A Good Look Pt. 1” (2021) and “Get A Good Look Pt. 2” (2022), confirm this direction with voice‑forward tracks, rounded bass lines and restrained arrangements. In concert, Sports translates these studio pieces into a tight band format, favoring slightly reorchestrated versions, and plays stages where indie pop, bedroom pop and neo‑soul intersect, gradually consolidating Sports’ place within this generation of American projects that hybridize pop and R&B.
