King King
Formed in Glasgow, Scotland, in the late 2000s around singer and guitarist Alan Nimmo, King King operates within a blues-rock tradition infused with soul and melodic rock with classical touches. The band first made its mark on the British blues scene, playing clubs and festivals before releasing its debut studio album, Take My Hand, in 2011, followed by Standing in the Shadows in 2013—records that confirmed an approach blending robust guitars, warm keyboards and choruses carried by Nimmo’s raspy voice. With Reaching for the Light (2015) and Exile & Grace (2017), King King refined a more rock-oriented sound while retaining a blues foundation and hints of gospel and soul in the backing vocals and arrangements. Line-up changes over the years have not altered the artistic direction centered on Alan Nimmo, who remains the group’s driving force. In 2020, the album Maverick continued this trajectory with a stage-oriented repertoire emphasizing direct playing, accessible song structures and a balance between slow ballads and more energetic numbers, consistent with contemporary British blues rock.
