Apparat
Under the pseudonym Apparat, Sascha Ring has been shaping electronic music since the late 1990s at the intersections of IDM, ambient, techno and experimental pop. Active on the Berlin label Shitkatapult, Apparat has released albums that trace a gradual shift from club‑oriented sounds to more melodic and vocal forms, notably Multifunktionsebene (2001), Duplex (2003), Walls (2007), The Devil’s Walk (2011), the stage project Krieg und Frieden (Music for Theatre) (2013) and LP5 (2019). Apparat’s work is marked by frequent use of atmospheric textures, intricately detailed rhythms and voices treated as elements of the soundscape, hovering between song and instrumental composition. Alongside his solo productions, Sascha Ring regularly collaborates with other artists—particularly Ellen Allien—and forms the trio Moderat with Modeselektor, active from the late 2000s in a hybrid electronic vein. Apparat is also involved in music for image, composing scores for theatre and film, including Capri‑Revolution (2018) and, together with Dustin O’Halloran, the score for Equals (2015), while maintaining a career as a DJ and producer on the international scene.
