Son Lux
In New York, Son Lux originally coalesced around composer, producer and singer Ryan Lott as a solo project launched in the late 2000s, before becoming a trio with guitarist Rafiq Bhatia and drummer Ian Chang from 2015. Son Lux’s music blends experimental rock, post‑rock and electronic composition, with songs built on often restrained vocals, jagged rhythms, orchestral arrangements and a pronounced taste for contrasts between tension and sparseness. This identity is apparent on At War with Walls & Mazes (2008), We Are Rising (2011) and Lanterns (2013), and it evolves through Bones (2015) — the first Son Lux album as a full band — Brighter Wounds (2018) and the Tomorrows trilogy: Tomorrows I (2020), Tomorrows II (2020) and Tomorrows III (2021). Son Lux has also developed steady work for film, notably on The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby and later on the score for Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022), a soundtrack produced with several guests that was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Score. Between independent stages, festivals and occasional collaborations, Son Lux has occupied from the start a space where songwriting, contemporary composition and electronic forms intersect without conflating.
