Frank Wiedemann
Born in 1973 in Karlsruhe, Frank Wiedemann first performed in rock and jazz groups before turning to the electronic scene in the late 1990s, while working as a graphic designer. Since 2001 he has formed the duo Âme with Kristian Beyer; their early releases appeared on Sonar Kollektiv before they founded the label Innervisions in 2006 with Dixon. His trajectory spans house and techno, characterized by often melodic writing, a strong attention to textures and a significant role for improvisation in live performances. Outside of Âme, Wiedemann has pursued several collaborative projects, notably A Critical Mass with Henrik Schwarz, Dixon and Kristian Beyer, and later Schwarzmann with Henrik Schwarz, in a freer, more improvised register. With Australian singer Ry X he launched Howling, a crossover of electronic, ambient and songwriting that resulted in the albums Sacred Ground (2015) and Colure (2020). Under his own name he released the Moorthon EP (2016) and the Granville EP (2020), and has composed for film, including the soundtrack Symphony of Now (2018). He has also worked alongside Marcel Dettmann, Roman Flügel, Trikk and WhoMadeWho, in a career that links club culture, live performance and more transversal formats.
