Joyce Manor
Joyce Manor are an American punk rock band from Torrance, California. Formed in 2008 around singer-guitarist Barry Johnson and guitarist Chase Knobbe, they were soon joined by a rhythm section that solidified the quartet. Emerging from the Los Angeles and Southern California DIY scene, Joyce Manor developed a sound that blends melodic punk rock, pop punk, emo, and touches of indie rock—short, direct songs built around clear vocal melodies and introspective lyrics. Their self-titled debut arrived in 2011, followed by Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired in 2012, which put the band on the small-venue circuit and on shared tours with other American punk bands. With Never Hungover Again (2014) and Cody (2016), released on Epitaph Records, Joyce Manor broadened their audience while tightening their writing around concise, narrative-driven songs. The compilation Songs From Northern Torrance, issued in 2020, looks back at the band’s early days, while Million Dollars to Kill Me (2018) and 40 oz. to Fresno (2022) reaffirm their lean toward melodic punk rock shaped by personal relationships, suburban ennui, and a live-leaning energy.
