Ben Quad

Born in Oklahoma City, Ben Quad took shape in 2018 around Sam Wegrzynski, Henry Shields, Edgar Viveros and Isaac Young. The quartet operates in an emo vein that intersects pop punk, post-hardcore, Midwest emo and screamo surges, with songwriting grounded in nervous guitars, taut melodies and often abrupt shifts in tempo. Early signposts include Spring 2018 Demo: The Birth of Ben Quad and several splits released between 2018 and 2019 with My Heart & Liver Are the Best of Friends, Brooding and Sweet Peach, quickly placing them within the American DIY emo circuit. Ben Quad then refined its format on the debut album I’m Scared That’s All There Is (2022), where pop-punk tension coexists with a rougher sensibility, followed by the EP Ephemera in 2024. Signed to Wax Bodega and later Pure Noise Records, Ben Quad continued this trajectory with Wisher in 2025. The name Ben Quad refers to the Star Wars character Ben Quadinaros, a detail reflecting a band rooted in contemporary alternative culture rather than a fixed genre posture.
