Lacuna Coil

Formed in Milan in 1994 around Andrea Ferro and Marco Coti Zelati, initially under the names Sleep of Right and then Ethereal, Lacuna Coil gradually established itself in a style blending gothic metal, alternative metal and dark hard rock. The balance is centered on Cristina Scabbia’s clean vocals, who joined shortly after the band’s beginnings, and Ferro’s rougher singing. The first records, In a Reverie (1999) and Unleashed Memories (2001), showcased melodic songwriting still marked by European gothic aesthetics, before Comalies (2002) broadened the band’s reach and accompanied its tours in Europe and North America. With Karmacode (2006) and Shallow Life (2009), Lacuna Coil emphasized direct choruses and modern metal textures, a direction continued on Dark Adrenaline (2012), Broken Crown Halo (2014), Delirium (2016) and Black Anima (2019), where the sound became denser and more aggressive. In 2022 Lacuna Coil revisited Comalies with the Comalies XX project, before releasing Sleepless Empire in 2025. Across lineup changes, Marco Coti Zelati, Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro have remained the core of the band, identified by this vocal duality and a melodic metal with dark atmospheres.
