Julia Jacklin

Born in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Julia Jacklin first developed on Sydney’s music scene before evolving a songwriting voice in which indie folk, indie rock, independent pop and touches of alternative country coexist in a restrained format centered on voice, guitar and measured arrangements. After stints in the duo Salta and the trio Phantastic Ferniture, she released the EP Santafel in 2014 and established her solo project with the album Don’t Let the Kids Win in 2016. That debut, recorded in New Zealand with producer Ben Edwards, took her onto stages across Australia, Britain, Europe and North America, in clubs and at festivals alike. Her second album, Crushing (2019), further refines her approach with songs that are more direct in their storytelling and a sharper tension between melodic softness and taut guitars. In 2022 Julia Jacklin continued this trajectory with Pre Pleasure, recorded in Montréal, where her writing gained density while remaining direct. On record as well as on stage, she works in an intimate register that is never plaintive, attentive to the details of everyday life, relationships and forms of vulnerability.
