Grayscale
Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Grayscale has been crafting melodic rock since the early 2010s at the crossroads of pop-punk, emo, and alternative. Centered on the voice of Collin Walsh, the band broke through with the EP Leaving in 2013 and refined its writing on Change in 2015, pairing chiming guitars and brisk rhythms with lyrics focused on relationships, family, and mental health. Their 2017 debut album, Adornment, established Grayscale on the American pop-punk scene, and Nella Vita (2019) marked a shift toward a more pop-rock register, with greater tempo nuance and an expanded role for vocal arrangements. Released in 2021, Umbra continues this move toward a contemporary alternative rock sound, blending lingering traces of their emo beginnings with indie-pop and subtle R&B influences. Frequently touring the United States and Europe, Grayscale sits at the intersection of the melodic punk scene and mainstream rock while keeping its songwriting rooted in the intimate.
