Jeff Mills

A leading figure in electronic music, Jeff Mills is a DJ, producer and visionary artist whose world is deeply informed by science fiction. From the start he has explored futuristic ideas, narratives and aesthetics through a techno that looks to infinity while remaining rooted in the present. Tracks such as Mutant Theory, Tomorrow, Art/UFO, Time Machine and Alpha Centauri express his fascination with space, time and technological evolution, making the future a central driving force in his work. In the 2000s Jeff Mills made a decisive artistic turn, expanding his practice well beyond the clubs. In 2000 he composed the soundtrack for Fritz Lang’s silent masterpiece Metropolis, affirming his interest in utopias, speculative thought and imagined worlds. The following year he created Mono, a sculptural installation inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, presented at the CECC museum during the Sónar festival in Barcelona. Since then Jeff Mills has multiplied collaborations with cultural institutions such as the Cinémathèque Française and the Cité de la Musique, revisiting film classics through electro-orchestral scores. His compositions for films like October by Sergei Eisenstein, Fantastic Voyage by Richard Fleischer and Woman in the Moon by Fritz Lang demonstrate his constant desire to push the limits of sound, image and imagination. A true architect of the future, Jeff Mills continues to build a bridge between techno and science fiction, between sound art and cosmic reflection.
