Excision

Behind the moniker Excision is Canadian producer Jeff Abel from Kelowna, British Columbia, active on the bass music scene since the mid-2000s. First recognized in dubstep and drumstep through his early EPs and remixes, Excision shaped an aesthetic centered on massive bass, precisely chopped arrangements, and sci-fi-inspired imagery, planting him firmly on the heaviest end of North American dubstep. Founder of the label Rottun Recordings and later Subsidia Records in 2020, he has used these platforms to release his own work and amplify a wide roster of dubstep- and riddim-focused producers. His discography includes several studio albums that mark key milestones in his trajectory, from “X Rated” (2011) to “Codename X” (2015), “Virus” (2016), “Apex” (2018), and “Onyx” (2022), as well as Destroid, a more metal-leaning, live-oriented project with Downlink and KJ Sawka, introduced by the album “The Invasion” in 2013. A constant presence on tour across North America and Europe, Excision also spearheads the Lost Lands festival in Ohio and Bass Canyon in Washington State, now cornerstone gatherings for the dubstep community and for the stage universe he has built around his music.
