Subtronics

Philadelphia-based producer and DJ Subtronics has, since the early 2010s, cultivated a highly rhythmic take on dubstep and riddim, built around heavy basslines, tempo shifts, and meticulous electronic sound design. First noticed through a run of EPs and singles released online, he gradually carved out a place within the North American bass music scene, stringing together club tours and festival appearances before expanding internationally. His 2019 collaboration with American producer GRiZ on Griztronics played a key role in broadening his audience, highlighting a style rooted in syncopated patterns, chopped drops, and explicit nods to rave culture. In 2020 he launched his own label, Cyclops Recordings, which became the home for numerous solo releases as well as projects with other dubstep and bass music producers. His debut studio album, Fractals (2022), distills this aesthetic with tracks ranging from hard-hitting riddim to more melodic passages, while TESSERACT (2024) extends the approach by emphasizing dynamic variation, collaborations, and live-oriented formats. Between dancefloor-focused productions, remixes, and touring sets, Subtronics is part of a network of DJs and producers shaping the recent evolution of American dubstep.
