Kai Wachi

Based in Boise, Idaho, American producer and DJ Kai Wachi has made a name for himself on the bass music scene since the early 2010s with an approach that sits between dubstep, hybrid trap and hip‑hop influences. Picked up by Montreal’s Kannibalen Records, Kai Wachi released a string of singles and digital EPs that placed him among a generation of North American producers favoring massive sonics and highly segmented structures. His music combines distorted basslines, stuttering rhythms and slower melodic passages, often carried by pop or rock vocals, as on several tracks recorded with singer Dylan Matthew. Through club tours and appearances at electronic music and dubstep festivals, Kai Wachi developed a more contrasting palette, blending abrasive textures, cinematic atmospheres and sung choruses. That evolution culminated in the 2022 album Skins, which gathers different facets of his writing and consolidates his position in the international bass music landscape.
