Amy Macdonald
Born in Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow, Scotland, Amy Macdonald established herself from the mid-2000s with straightforward songwriting centered on acoustic guitar, at the crossroads of folk rock, indie pop, soft rock and a restrained pop rock with sober choruses. Self-taught, Amy began playing as a teenager in Glasgow pubs and coffee houses, before being noticed after sending a demo to a production company in response to an ad in the music press. Signed in 2007, she released This Is the Life the same year, an album that firmly placed her on the British and European scene, notably propelled by the tracks Mr. Rock & Roll and This Is the Life. She then developed a repertoire in which rock energy is tempered by an acoustic, narrative approach on A Curious Thing (2010) and Life in a Beautiful Light (2012). Over her career Amy Macdonald has collaborated with Ray Davies on See My Friends in 2010 and with Paul Weller on A Curious Thing. After Under Stars (2017) and the best-of Woman of the World: The Best of 2007–2018, she continued with The Human Demands (2020) and Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For? (2025), while remaining a highly active touring artist across the UK and Europe.
