KT Tunstall

Born in Edinburgh in 1975 and raised in St Andrews, Scotland, KT Tunstall emerged in the early 2000s on the British scene as a singer-songwriter blending folk, pop and rock. After beginnings in small indie bands and local venues, she moved to London and signed with Relentless Records, leading to her debut album Eye to the Telescope in 2004, featuring tracks like “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” and “Suddenly I See” that established her melodic writing and rhythmic guitar style. She followed with Drastic Fantastic (2007), which leaned more toward pop rock, then Tiger Suit (2010), with more rhythmic structures, and Invisible Empire // Crescent Moon (2013), a quieter, more acoustic and introspective record. Largely based in the United States thereafter, Tunstall developed a trilogy of concept albums around soul, body and spirit with Kin (2016), Wax (2018) and Nut (2022), while continuing to perform regularly, often in stripped-down lineups, and composing songs for various film and TV soundtracks. Her songwriter-driven music, centered on voice, guitar and a direct approach to pop and folk-rock, remains at the heart of her recordings and concerts.
