Dope Lemon
Under the name Dope Lemon, Australian musician Angus Stone has, since the mid‑2010s, been cultivating a more psychedelic and laid‑back side of his songwriting, distinct from his work in the folk duo Angus & Julia Stone. Based in Australia, Dope Lemon occupies an aesthetic that blends indie rock, hazy folk, touches of blues and psychedelic influences — characterized by slow tempos, supple guitars and a frequently hushed vocal that gives the music a cinematic feel. The project is shaped in the studio around Angus Stone with a rotating cast of musicians, and is brought to the stage as a full band on venues and festivals across Australia, Europe and North America. Dope Lemon’s discography centers on albums such as “Honey Bones” (2016), “Smooth Big Cat” (2019), “Rose Pink Cadillac” (2022) and “Kimosabè” (2023), which reflect a consistent pursuit of slow grooves, round bass tones and repetitive melodies, while gradually incorporating more soul and pop elements. As a distinct chapter in Angus Stone’s trajectory, Dope Lemon functions as a testing ground for songs that feel like nocturnal reveries, built on spare arrangements, a taste for vintage atmospheres and a strong visual imagination evident in its videos and covers.
