Allah-Las
Formed in Los Angeles in the late 2000s, Allah‑Las brings together Miles Michaud, Pedrum Siadatian, Spencer Dunham and Matthew Correia around a shared taste for 1960s rock and the culture of independent record shops, influenced in particular by their time at Amoeba Music. The band develops a sound that blends garage rock, surf, gentle psychedelia and folk‑rock, driven by reverb‑soaked guitars, spare rhythms and harmonized vocals, with a production that favors retro textures without resorting to heavy pastiche. Their self‑titled debut Allah‑Las, released in 2012 on Innovative Leisure and produced by Nick Waterhouse, established this aesthetic and paved the way for Worship the Sun (2014), which leans toward seaside, instrumental atmospheres, and Calico Review (2016), which introduced more pop‑oriented and melancholic shades. With LAHS (2019) and Zuma 85 (2023), Allah‑Las broadened their palette toward psych‑pop and slightly more experimental arrangements while remaining rooted in concise songwriting. At the same time, the band figures in the international psych revival through regular tours in the US and Europe and curates Reverberation Radio, a series of online mixtapes that reflects their crate‑digging approach and engagement with obscure music from past decades.
