Nick Murphy aka Chet Faker

Straddling downtempo electronics and hushed soul, Nick Murphy—first recognized under the moniker Chet Faker—has, since the early 2010s, developed an intimate songwriting voice from Melbourne, Australia, at the crossroads of R&B, indie pop, and electronic music. Chet Faker drew attention in 2011 with a cover of “No Diggity,” then cemented that early exposure with the EP “Thinking in Textures” in 2012 and the album “Built on Glass” in 2014, where a slightly veiled vocal, slow tempos, and warm electronic textures intertwine. This period also saw Nick Murphy engage in numerous collaborations, notably with Australian producer Flume on the 2013 EP “Lockjaw,” then with Marcus Marr on “Work” in 2015, underscoring a taste for hybrid formats bridging club culture, pop, and songwriting. From 2016 onward, the artist released music under his given name, with the EP “Missing Link” (2017) and the album “Run Fast Sleep Naked” (2019), keeping the focus on voice and harmonies while opening up to more organic instrumentation. Nick Murphy later reactivated the Chet Faker alias with the 2021 album “Hotel Surrender,” extending this trajectory that blends understated groove, soul influences, and stripped-back electronic production, which he brings to the stage across clubs, concert halls, and international festivals.
