Floorplan
Behind Floorplan is Detroit producer Robert Hood, joined since the mid-2010s by his daughter Lyric Hood in a father–daughter duo. Born as a parallel alias to his pioneering work in minimal techno, Floorplan emerged in the mid-1990s on the M‑Plant label with a series of maxis that shifted his aesthetic toward energetic house infused with funk, disco and explicit gospel references. The project is distinguished by tracks built around vocal loops, organ motifs and simple, repetitive basslines, designed for both clubs and large dancefloors. With the albums Paradise (2013) and Victorious (2016), Floorplan asserted an identity in which a spiritual dimension and the culture of Detroit’s African-American churches occupy a central place, while remaining rooted in the codes of contemporary techno and house. Since Lyric Hood’s arrival, Floorplan has placed greater emphasis on rhythm and the direct energy of DJ sets presented on international festival and club stages, extending Detroit’s history within a decisively dance-oriented framework.
