DJ Minx
Born in Detroit as Jennifer Witcher, DJ Minx has built a career since the late 1980s tied to the city’s house and techno scenes, working in an aesthetic that blends groove house, techno rhythms and the direct legacy of Detroit’s sound. After discovering the DJs of the Music Institute, she began mixing around the turn of the 1990s, hosted the radio show Deep Space Radio on WGPR and later Steamy Windows on CJAM 91.5 FM, before becoming a resident at Club Motor in Hamtramck. In 1996 she founded Women on Wax, a collective created to give greater visibility to Detroit’s women DJs, and in 2001 launched the label Women on Wax Recordings. Her discography took shape in the early 2000s, notably with the track A Walk in the Park, reissued in 2004 on Minus, Richie Hawtin’s label. Present at the first Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000, DJ Minx has since been associated with Movement and the international circulation of club scenes, performing across the United States, Europe and at major festivals. More recently she released the EP Queendom in 2021 and the single Do It All Night on Planet E in 2022, featuring remixes by Carl Craig and Honey Dijon.
