DJ Pierre

Active on Chicago's house scene from the mid-1980s, DJ Pierre, born Nathaniel Pierre Jones, helped lay the foundations of acid house with the group Phuture, formed with Earl “Spanky” Smith Jr. and Herbert Jackson. The track “Acid Tracks”, recorded for Trax Records in the late 1980s, put DJ Pierre at the center of this movement, which blends repetitive basslines, modulation effects and hypnotic structures. Later based in New York, DJ Pierre developed a style often described as “wild pitch”, built on progressive rises, highly layered arrangements and a focus on rhythmic tension, heard across his productions under aliases such as Pierre’s Pfantasy Club, Phortune and Photon Inc. Released on labels like Trax Records, Strictly Rhythm and Get Physical, his output alternates club-focused releases, remixes and collaborations with other house and techno producers. Still active as an international DJ, DJ Pierre carries forward this aesthetic between acid house, deep house and techno with sets centered on long transitions, continuous percussive energy and a strong link to Chicago’s legacy.
