Deradoorian
Born in Orangevale, California, and based in Los Angeles after a stint on the New York scene, Angel Deradoorian, performing under the name Deradoorian, develops a solo project at the crossroads of pop art, indie rock, experimental music and psychedelic pop with flexible rhythmic lines. A multi-instrumentalist of Armenian origin, Deradoorian first came to prominence with Dirty Projectors, the Brooklyn-based group she joined in 2007 and with which she contributed notably during the Bitte Orca period. In parallel, she began early a personal project with the Mind Raft EP in 2009, followed by the Marichka single in 2011. After leaving Dirty Projectors in 2012, Deradoorian pursues a more autonomous writing, based on vocal overlays, oblique grooves and a melodic approach that borrows as much from indie rock as from psychedelic music and a form of minimalist pop. This orientation takes shape on The Expanding Flower Planet in 2015, then on the EP Eternal Recurrence in 2017 and the album Find the Sun in 2020. Over the years, Deradoorian has also collaborated with other artists and projects, notably Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks, while moving between indie, experimental and electronic scenes.
