Cate le Bon
Born in Penboyr, Carmarthenshire, Wales, Cate Le Bon has since the late 2000s developed a songwriting voice that links folk, indie rock, baroque pop and experimental pop, marked by an affinity for oblique arrangements, spare melodies and slightly off-kilter rhythms. She sings in both English and Welsh and first came to attention touring with Gruff Rhys in 2007, before releasing a Welsh-language EP in 2008 and the album Me Oh My in 2009. Her solo discography continued with Cyrk (2012), Mug Museum (2013), Crab Day (2016), Reward (2019), Pompeii (2022) and Michelangelo Dying (2025), each record shifting toward a more angular, minimalist and strange pop without abandoning her melodic foundation. Alongside her solo work she formed the duo DRINKS with Tim Presley, active on Hermits on Holiday (2015) and Hippo Lite (2018). Having lived in Wales, Los Angeles and later elsewhere in California, she has also worked as a producer for other artists, with credits on records by Deerhunter, John Grant, Wilco, Devendra Banhart and Horsegirl.
